Standards & Warranty Guidelines
At Cabinet Doors Plus, every custom cabinet door and drawer front is crafted to meet high standards of quality, precision, and durability. Our Standards & Warranty Guidelines explain product specifications, size tolerances, wood characteristics, finishing expectations, and warranty coverage, helping you make informed decisions before ordering.
Understanding these guidelines ensures proper installation, long-lasting performance, and confidence that your custom cabinetry is built to deliver exceptional results for years to come.
1. Door Sizes
Minimum size: 7″ W × 7″ H
Maximum warranty size: 24″ W × 48″ H (standard or open frame doors)
Oversized Door Conditions:
- Doors over 24" wide must include a vertical mullion to qualify for warranty coverage.
- Doors over 48" high must include a horizontal mullion to qualify for warranty coverage.
- Doors built beyond these dimensions without mullions are not covered against bow, warp, or structural issues.
Additional Notes:
- Minimum door size is based on standard 2 ¼" stiles and rails. Increasing stile or rail width will increase the minimum size.
- Oversized doors may be built at the customer’s request but are not warrantied against warp or bow.
- Open frame doors may be more prone to warping and are covered only within the listed sizes.
- Warp and bow are measured per door, not across a pair.
2. Drawer Front Sizes
Minimum size: 7″ W × 5 ½” H
Warranty Coverage:
- Drawer fronts follow the same warp/bow tolerances as doors.
- Oversized or custom drawer fronts are built at the customer’s risk and are not covered under warranty.
Additional Notes:
- Standard minimums are based on a 2 ¼" stile and a reduced 1 ½" rail.
- Warp is measured per individual drawer front.
3. Thickness
Standard thickness: ¾” (±1/64″)
Optional thickness: 1″ available for cope-and-stick and applied molding doors.
Mitered door thickness depends on the profile and cannot be changed.
4. Out-of-Square Tolerance
Doors and drawer fronts may be out-of-square by up to 1/16″ per 24″ of width or height.
Anything beyond this tolerance is considered defective and will be remade under warranty.
5. Bow / Warp Tolerance
| Up to 24" × 48" | 1/8" |
| 24"–36" × up to 60" | 3/16" |
| 36"–48" × up to 60" | 1/4" |
Notes:
- Warp is measured with the door laid flat, concave side up.
- Tolerances apply per door or drawer front, not across pairs.
- Oversized products beyond Section 1 limits are not warrantied for warp unless built with mullions.
- Warp claims must be reported within 90 days of delivery.
- Products stored or installed outside 35–50% relative humidity are not covered for warp issues.
6. Panel & Rail Standards
Minimum stile width: 1 ¼”
Minimum rail height: 1 ¼”
Minimum borable stile widths:
Standard doors: 1 ⅞”
Open frame doors: 2 ¼”
Construction Details:
- Large doors may require additional center rails for strength.
- Small doors under 8 ½" width may use modified proportions or slab construction.
- Center panels are sized for natural expansion and contraction.
- Flat panels may be MDF or veneered MDF; raised panels are solid wood unless otherwise noted.
7. Hinge Boring Standards
Standard boring: 35mm hole with 8mm dowel or pilot holes (Blum standard).
Placement: 4″ from top and bottom edges unless specified.
Additional hinges:
Doors over 48″ tall: 3 hinges minimum.
Doors up to 72″ tall: 4 hinges minimum.
Open frame doors must meet the required stile widths to qualify for boring.
8. Finish Preparation
All products are shipped raw, sanded, and ready for finish.
- Sanded through 180 grit by hand and machine.
- If stored in unconditioned or humid environments, additional prep sanding may be needed.
- Wipe clean before finishing.
- Finish within 30 days of delivery to maintain warranty coverage.
Warranty Coverage:
- Cabinet Doors Plus does not warranty finish results.
- Finish variations from natural wood characteristics (color, grain, knots, etc.) are not considered defects.
- Products finished without proper prep or stored improperly void the finish warranty.
9. Wood & Material Standards
- Wood is a natural material: grain, texture, and color variations are normal.
- Color differences within or between doors are expected and not defects.
- MDF panels are recommended for painted applications.
- Exposure to sunlight will naturally change the wood tone over time.
- End grain absorbs finish differently and may appear darker; this is not a defect.
Warranty Coverage:
- Covers defects in workmanship and construction only.
- No warranty on color match between doors, fronts, or moldings.
10. Moisture Content
- All wood is manufactured at a moisture content of 6–8%.
- Intended for installation in 35–50% relative humidity environments.
- Cabinets should not be installed until the HVAC system is operational and normal living conditions are established.
Warranty Coverage:
- Warranty void if products are stored or installed outside of the humidity range.
- Seasonal expansion or contraction is normal and not covered.
