How to Measure for Glass Inserts
Our glass-ready doors are designed with a recessed opening on the back, allowing for the installation of a glass panel. To help you order the correct size glass, follow these general measuring guidelines.
Step 1 :
Prepare the Door
Place the door face down so the routed opening (rabbet) is fully visible.
Step 2:
Measure Inside the Rabbet
Measure the inside width and inside height of the rabbet where the glass rests. For the most accurate results:
- Measure width at the top, middle, and bottom
- Measure height on the left, center, and right
- Use the smallest of each measurement
Step 3 :
Apply Clearance Allowance
Place the door face down so the routed opening (rabbet) is fully visible.
Most glass suppliers recommend ordering your glass 1/8 inch smaller than the measured opening (1/16 inch clearance on each side).
Your glass supplier may recommend more or less, depending on glass thickness and installation method.
Step 4 :
Confirm With Your Glass Supplier
Provide them with your final measurements so they can advise on thickness, safety glass options, and proper tolerances.
Please note: Because measurement techniques, tools, and installations vary, we cannot verify or guarantee measurements. Always double-check your final dimensions before placing your glass order.
